Ryouki Translations is a Japanese-to-English translation project. It is now and will likely always remain a micro-scale, single-person operation.
My intention with this translation project is to share materials I've been translating for myself as a part of my graduate studies. While I may expand into anime, novels, or other Japanese materials in the future, for the time being the project will be limited to manga scanlation.
I'm far from an expert in each and every aspect of manga scanlation. However, I couldn't help but think that if I'm going to be translating this stuff for myself, I might as well share it for the internet's otaku anglosphere more generally. Please forgive me if the scans are not always perfect. However, if you're concerned about the quality of any of my actual translations, please feel free to reach out. I, admittedly, still have a lot to learn as an aspiring translator.
Some works I'll be translating may one day be officially licensed for an English release, and if/when that becomes the case, I strongly urge readers of sufficient means to purchase the officially licensed releases. While I'm not so shameless as to suggest that I find internet piracy 'immoral' because it is 'stealing'--I'm sure you'll find that I'm a fairly ardent anti-capitalist who recognizes the privilege necessary to take such a stance--there is no denying that under the current global economic system, the arts cannot thrive without some level of cash flow. Ryouki Translations stands for open access media and artistic liberty, as well as fair communal support for the arts and its creators.
In my translations, I generally write names in (given name)(surname) format. So, for example, 手塚治虫, Tezuka Osamu, would be rendered Osamu Tezuka. For the sake of consistency, I'll be doing this not only for Japanese names, but also Chinese and Korean names.
With that said, I hope you all enjoy the materials I'll be sharing!
